At risk youth is a term to describe teens and other youth and the risks and issues they struggle with in their development to adulthood.
Some of the risks the youth face include crime, sex, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, gangs, anger management and self-esteem issues. Educating at risk youth to improve their life and social skills is an age-old practice. Historically we have always passed ethical behavior and acceptable social skills to the next generation through social skills. Today, however, disadvantaged youth are dropping out of school and not receiving these essential life and social skills they need to achieve their true potential

and become productive, contributive members of society.

According to a report compiled by the Josephson Institute; between 1986 and 1992, the total number of children killed by firearms rose by 144 percent. The report also claimed that from 1985 to 1993, murders committed by people over age 25 dropped 20 percent; but they increased 65 percent among 18- to 24-year-olds and increased 165 percent among 14- to 17-year-olds.

Atrisk.org's mission is to provide our visitors with the most informative, helpful and engaging reference for at risk youth aid.

We have identified over 250 life skills, and addressed each life skill with books, videos and posters to enable teachers and instructors to be more effective when educating at risk youth.

Our life skill lessons are interactive, engaging and adaptable. Our programs and products are youth-focused, and geared to address even the most severely socially-challenged youths.

Even if the youth cannot read or write, our lessons are designed to stimulate interest, inspire a willingness to learn, and help learners motivate themselves to improve their lives.
